Updated for Spring 2025 Criteria | 📘 Based on CUI Undergraduate Handbook

Use the COMSATS (CUI) CGPA Calculator to determine your academic standing based on the official absolute grading system. COMSATS University Islamabad (including Lahore, Abbottabad, Wah, Attock, Sahiwal, and Vehari campuses) typically employs a 4.00 absolute grading scale.

This tool helps you calculate your Semester GPA (SGPA) and Cumulative GPA (CGPA) accurately by using the standard grade points (e.g., A = 4.0, A- = 3.7) defined in the university's academic regulations.

Assume a student takes the following courses:

  • ITC (4 Credits): 82% Marks → Grade A- (3.7) → 4 × 3.7 = 14.8 points
  • Programming (4 Credits): 71% Marks → Grade B (3.0) → 4 × 3.0 = 12.0 points
  • Pak Studies (3 Credits): 86% Marks → Grade A (4.0) → 3 × 4.0 = 12.0 points

Total Credits: 11

COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) follows an Absolute Grading System. This means your grade is determined solely by your own percentage marks, regardless of how other students perform.

How do I calculate Percentage from CGPA?

There is no single official formula like "CGPA x 9.5" authorized by CUI. However, for general estimation or job applications where a specific formula isn't provided, Percentage = (CGPA / 4.00) × 100 is sometimes used, but it's best to rely on the letter grade percentage ranges.

What is the "First Division" CGPA at COMSATS?

For most CUI degree programs, a CGPA of 2.50 or higher is considered First Division (60%+ marks). Below 2.50 is typically Second Division.

Probation & Degree Rules

What if my CGPA is below 2.0?

If your Semester GPA or CGPA falls below 2.00, you are placed on First Probation. You must improve it in the next semester. If you fail to reach a CGPA of 2.00 for two consecutive semesters, you will be dropped from the university.

What is the minimum passing grade?

The minimum passing grade for an undergraduate course is 'D', which corresponds to 50-54% marks.

Attendance & Improvement

What is the attendance policy?

You must maintain at least 80% attendance in each course to be eligible to sit for the terminal examination.

Can I improve a grade?

Students can repeat a course to improve their grade if they obtained a C- or lower. The better grade is counted towards the CGPA.
