Relative vs Absolute Grading
Air University primarily uses Relative Grading. This means your letter grade (A, B+, etc.) is determined by your position in the class (Mean and Standard Deviation).
Important: While the assignment of grades is relative, the GPA Points for each grade are fixed (e.g., an 'A' is always 4.00, 'B' is always 3.00). This calculator uses these fixed points to compute your GPA.
Academic Rules: Probation & Dismissal
⚠️ Probation
If your SGPA or CGPA drops below 2.00, you will be placed on "First Probation". You must improve it in the next semester.
🚫 Dismissal
Three consecutive probations (CGPA < 2.00) typically lead to academic dismissal/drop from the university.
🎓 Degree Requirement
A minimum CGPA of 2.00 (for BS) or 2.50 (for MS) is required to be eligible for degree award.
Calculation Example
Example of GPA calculation for a BBA student:
- Marketing (3 Credits): Grade B+ (3.30) → 3 × 3.30 = 9.90 points
- Accounting (3 Credits): Grade A (4.00) → 3 × 4.00 = 12.00 points
- Calculus (3 Credits): Grade B- (2.70) → 3 × 2.70 = 8.10 points
Total Credits: 9
Total Points: 30.0
SGPA = 30.0 / 9 = 3.33
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Air University use relative grading?
Yes, Air University employs Relative Grading. Your letter grade (A, B+, etc.) is determined based on the class average (Mean) and Standard Deviation. However, once the grade is assigned, it carries a fixed point value for GPA calculation.
Does the grading scale differ for Multan or Kharian campuses?
No, Air University follows a Unified Grading Policy across all campuses (Islamabad, Multan, Kharian). Use this calculator for any campus.
How are 'I' (Incomplete) grades handled?
An 'I' grade is temporary. You must complete the requirements within the first four weeks of the next semester; otherwise, it becomes an 'F'.
What is the attendance requirement at Air University?
Strictly 75% attendance is required to appear in the final examination. Short attendance usually leads to an 'F' (Fail) in that course.
Can I withdraw from a course?
Yes, you can withdraw (W grade) from a course before the 10th week (check academic calendar). A 'W' grade does not affect your CGPA but you must pay for and retake the course later.
Can I repeat a passed course?
Yes, you can repeat a course if you secured a C+ grade or lower. The improved grade will replace the previous one in CGPA calculation.
What is a Summer Semester?
The Summer semester is an optional, condensed session used primarily to repeat courses, improve grades, or clear deficiencies. It happens between Spring and Fall.
What is the criteria for the Dean's Honor List?
Undergraduate students with a semester GPA of 3.50 or higher and a full course load (no withdrawals/fails) are typically placed on the Dean's Honor List.
How is the Gold Medal awarded?
Gold Medals are awarded to the student with the highest CGPA in the batch (minimum 3.50), provided they have no 'F' grades, no repeated courses, and no disciplinary record.
What is the minimum GPA for Scholarship?
Need-based and merit scholarships are available. Merit scholarships usually require maintaining a GPA above 3.50. Check the Financial Aid office for specific thresholds.
